Dr. Ferdinand E. B. Samonte is a Filipino Obesity Surgeon and a Pioneer of the LAPBAND Surgery in the Philippines, having been trained almost five years ago, with both Basic and Advanced Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery (LAPBAND Surgery), by the world renowned and expert LAPBAND Surgeon Professor Paul O'Brien at the Avenue Hospital, Victoria, Melbourne Australia. He performed his first LAPBAND Surgery at the Delos Santos Medical Center in Quezon City Philippines February 2004, proctored by world leader in LAPBAND Surgery, Dr. Ariel Ortiz Lagardere. He also pioneered the non-surgical, non-pharmaceutical option for the treatment of obesity, the Endoscopic Bioenterics Intragastric Balloon (BIB) placement. He also organized workshops on the LAPBAND Surgery and Endoscopic (BIB) placement for a number of surgeons in Metro Manila, Philippines.

Dr. Samonte is currently the Head of Section of the Center for Obesity Control at Delos Santos Medical Center, Fellow of the Obesity Surgery Society of Australia and New Zealand, Full member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and founding member of the Philippine Obesity Control Surgery Team Inc.

He also does Cosmetic Plastic Surgery Procedures for those patients who have significantly lost weight months after the Bariatric procedures, being also trained by expert and current President of the Philippine Society for Cosmetic Surgery, Dr. Corazon Collantes-Jose.
