History

The concept of having a center with the complement of A Multidisciplinary Team of Specialists that will address the growing needs of children with neurological, developmental, genetic, neurosurgical, and psychiatric disorders has been a long time dream which has been shared with the department of Pediatrics of the Manila Doctors Hospital under the Headship of Dr. Cynthia Cuayo-Juico.

The medical needs of these children are complex and multidisciplinary approach to the management is the key to the best outcome. Early diagnosis and intervention are significant determinants of treatment outcome. Until the establishment of this center, there is none in a private set up that brings together this group of specialists to work together as a team in the management of these children. The idea of a “one stop shop” facility that will reduce the travel time, travel expenses and lost income for family members, as well as decrease the inconvenience of bringing the patient from one clinic and/or hospital to the other, is an important purpose of the center, on top of its main goal to deliver quality care to the patients.

Service Description

Neurologic Assessment of the Child

·         All other concerns regarding the Neurodevelopment of a child.

·         Congenital Malformations of the Central Nervous System.

·         Delay or Arrest in the Development of the Child.

·         Headache and Other Pain Syndromes.

·         Seizures and Movement Disorders.

·         Speech and Language Disorders including Autism.

·         Memory and Learning Problems including ADHD, and School Phobias.

·         Weakness and gait problems including Cerebral Palsy.

Child Psychiatry Consult and Management

·         Bipolar mood disorders, Psychosis, Oppositional Behaviors.

·         Consultation – Liaison

·         Pre and post operation, death dying issue for terminally ill patients.

·         Developmental tasks, school refusal.

·         Parenting management and other family related problems affecting the child.

·         Stress, Depression, and Anxiety.

·         Sleep Problems, Eating Disorders, and Trauma related problems.

Child Psychology Consult and Management

·         Consultation regarding concerns in learning school accommodation and placement.

Allied Medical Services

·         Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Speech Therapy.

Ancillary Service

·         EEG, Hearing test, and Neuroimaging

o        CT Scan / Neurosonology
