The World Health Organization reports that more than 1 billion people worldwide are overweight and at least 300 million of them are obese. An estimated 115 million of these people will develop serous medical conditions, including diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer and hypertension. Sufficient weight loss can improve your health, reduce your risk of developing associated conditions, and enhance your quality of life.

Taking Control of Your Weight

Many obese people have tried repeatedly to lose unhealthy excess weight. However, studies have shown that patients on diets, exercise programs, or medication can lose approximately 10 percent of their body weight but tend to regain two-thirds of it within 1 year, and almost all of it within 5 years. Naturally, many continue to look for a new treatment option.

Surgery can help you take control of your weight and your life. The BioEnterics® LAP-BAND® System surgery is performed laparoscopically by placing an inflatable band around the upper part of the stomach. The new, small upper stomach pouch and a narrowed outlet limit the stomach capacity and increase the feeling of fullness. The following reduction in food intake results in weight loss.

The LAP-BAND System is an adjustable and reversible obesity surgery. It eliminates many of the risks of other obesity surgeries, such as gastric bypass or stomach stapling. Once implanted, the band can be tightened or loosened, via the balloon on its inner surface that can be inflated or deflated with saline. LAP-BAND adjustments are performed in an outpatient setting in a matter of minutes.
