Personal Triumphs Against Obesity:
Karen's Story

I weighed 220 lbs. before my surgery. Ever since I was a child I have always been overweight. But both my parents were also big so I didn't feel different.

I had an eating disorder. When I was younger I would eat and eat until I felt like vomiting.

When I became a teenager, when I was happy or depressed, I would eat - and eat. Eating made me happy. My family also loved to eat.

Over the years, I tried many things to lose weight. When I was 9, my mother took me to this doctor who gave me diet pills such as Ionamin and others. I lost some weight but then I stopped taking the pills I double my weight.

After college, I took Bangkok pills for about 3 years. But I felt sick. So I stopped taking it.

I was advised to exercise and diet. It took me a year to lose 50 lbs. But I gained it all back in two months. After that, I lost hope and started eating again.

In March 2003, I read about Dr. Dineros and his group in a magazine. They were doing bariatric surgery. I made an appointment to see him and after a week I had my surgery.

I am so happy that I did. It has been 11 months and I have lost 89 lbs. and I am still losing weight. I have never been so happy in my entire life. I feel good, confident and sexy!
